FIRST ROUND
I started off with these 7 characters with clever names and descriptions of why they represent the cyber security department. For example Faux the Hawk - Swift and agile. Quick to disseminate information on how to better keep your data safe.
SECOND ROUND
The client ended up going with armadillo. They liked that he had his own form of protection with his shell and that he was also small and agile. We also talked about the possibility of animating him rolling on/off screen in a ball. We also played with the idea of him being a gladiator or knight.
THIRD ROUND
In this round I focused on bringing more of Comerica’s branding into the character by playing with the colors of the suit of armor. Also we added a shield that was already an established logo for their cyber security team.
FOURTH ROUND
After agreeing on the color scheme, we decided to add a stroke/outline to the character and try him out in a different pose with his sword sheathed.
FINAL ROUND
For the final round the client requested the character look more like a classic college mascot and provided examples. I played with the proportions and we finally landed on this design and sent it to a 3D animator to recreate.
